There are always a thousand reasons to appreciate why we live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Here are just a few of the latest.

Living Innovation Zones–High Tech Playgrounds for All

The SF Mayor’s Office has rolled out a new program that introduces “innovation spaces” throughout the city. These environments showcase creative and high-tech interactive art and are now appearing at points along Market Street. The site in front of the Exploratorium Museum has generated a lot of interest lately.

Entrepreneurships in Residence

Another program widely promoted by Mayor Ed Lee is the Entrepreneurships in Residence program in which teams of techies are being selected to help tackle an array of problems facing SF and the public sector. Mayor Lee has promised to work toward rolling any successful solutions out to other cities.

Public Wifi

Did you know that courtesy of a $600,000 gift from Google, SF has public wifi in parks throughout the city? You can find out which parks are wired by reading this TechCrunch article.

Build a Better Obamacare Site

A few programmers were recently featured on CBS News for rolling out a quick and dirty (but not so dirty!) web application that runs quotes for prospective Obamacare enrollees. They put this together over a few weeks….in their spare time. Washington, are you listening? HealthSherpa.com doesn’t enable you to enroll in healthcare, it can be a good tool to compare your options.

And on the theme of getting things done, check out this great time-lapse video of the construction of the new span of the Bay Bridge, breaching the distance between Oakland and Treasure Island.
