5 Ways to Save for Your Business

Unbeatable Savings for Your Biz

Whether you’re saving for a rainy day or just saving, sometimes it’s a tough job to find great deals for your business. However, in the spirit of entrepreneurial solidarity, and in honor of upcoming Labor Day, we’d like to share a few online resources we’ve benefited from.

Group Deals for Businesses

If you haven’t heard of GroupPrice yet, you’re in for a real treat. This group discount service offers the small business equivalent of Groupon, enabling you to benefit from deeply discounted products and services. As with Groupon, daily deals are sent directly to your inbox.

A sampling of recent GroupPrice discounts we’ve recently been offered include “$299 for a Custom Professional Spokesperson Video for Your Website by Oculu,” “Save Up to 50% on Postcard Printing and Employee Handbook,” and “$39 for 100 Custom Bags with Biodegradable Plastic.” As with Groupon discounts, you’re advised to research the vendor, to be sure of a good fit for your company.

Cheap IT Equipment

Tired of trolling eBay? Looking for deep discounts from a reputable equipment shop? Check out CDW’s Small Business Catalogue for a trove of discounted computers, software, data storage products, and more. You can search by brand, price or category, but don’t forget to check out the Outlet section for the latest markdowns.

If you’re in need of ink and toner to match your spanking new printer, check out Cheap Office Supplies, where shipping is free for orders of $50 or more.

Affordable Printing

If you’re doing a big marketing push and it’s time for a quick mass-mailing, you’d be hard-pressed to find better prices than what’s offered through Oakland-based PS Print. We’ve had very good experiences printing and mailing postcards there. That said, be sure to take full advantage of their customer service team if you’re unsure about how to prep your files beforehand.

On the local side, we’ve printed custom business cards and mounted posters with Alameda-based Fast Imaging. Their turnaround is really impressive–often 1-2 days, depending on the service you require. And, we have a weak spot for fellow family-run businesses. Ask for Mandeep and request any current discounts or promotions–often up to 25% off your order. Honestly, sometimes Kinkos just won’t do.

DIY Websites and Landing Pages

Whether you’re launching your site or looking at a website redo, you really must consider WordPress content management system. If your goal is to update and control your own content, on a fully optimized platform, WordPress is the way to go. There are some really nice themes out there, all set up for you. Check out Best WordPress Themes or dig through Themeforest for some examples from the wide world of WordPress.

Now, once you’re on WordPress you might realize it’s time for an online marketing campaign. If you’re on a shoestring budget, or you just gotta roll things out fast, check out Premise Landing Pages. For only $85, you get access to all Premise has to offer for 6 months, or $165 for all time. Premise settles nicely inside of your WordPress dashboard and lets you create your own customized landing pages, complete with tidy little pre-made buttons and callout boxes.

Cheap Eats

We all know that dining out can be one of the biggest drains on your budget. It doesn’t have to be that way, though. Scrounge around the web and you’ll eat like a king. Sign up for Living Social to receive hot daily deals for your geographic region, check out SFGate’s Bargain Bites listings, or visit Restaurant.com to get discounts on gift certificates for participating restaurants.

Some of us prefer the great food and convenience of food truck dining. If you have an iPhone, try the Eat Street App, which allows you to search for food trucks in your local vicinity (when you enable geolocation). Or, just stroll down to your favorite local Vietnamese restaurant (in our case, Dragon Rouge) for a Banh mi sandwich–usually under $5.

So, what’s your favorite workaround? How much has your business saved today?
